About the Artist
I am an Austin-based representational artist who primarily works in soft pastels, creating both human and pet portraits, still lifes, and travel-inspired collections. I am drawn to narrative art with symbolism, and through years of experimentation and practice, I have found a way to bring traditional oil painting techniques-including grisaille, glazing and meticulous refinement of detail-into the medium of soft pastel.
My pet portrait commissions are my pet project, so to speak. They began years ago as a creative escape from long days of intense concentration at a highly disciplined classical atelier, where I was studying figurative realism and drawing from life. In the evenings and on weekends, I was teaching myself how to use pastels. I first started using the pets of my friends and family as easily accessible and fun subjects to experiment with portraying light, form, and color with this traditional medium.
At the same time, I was spending countless hours at my kids' weekend baseball tournaments. I started bringing my pastels along and using the stretches of downtime to practice pets. What began as a way to unwind eventually grew into a body of commissioned work that I truly love creating.
I named my business Good Eye Fine Art after the familiar "good eye, good eye" chant that became my soundtrack by the fields. The name is a nod to that chapter of family life, but it also reflects something fundamental to the lens through which I have always lived my life, noticing and delighting in the beautiful "little things" all around us.
I genuinely love the joy these portraits bring people. I find it deeply rewarding to create personalized art commissions that both celebrate a beloved companion and bring a little extra happiness into someone's life. Many of my clients are moved to tears when they view their portrait for the first time. To me, it's a tribute to our inseparable connection with nature and to the authentic love we have for our animal friends.
