Book a Portrait
How it works...
Step One: Reserve Your Spot
When you are ready to book, just click on the "Book Now" button, fill out the form, and secure your spot with a $100 non-refundable deposit. By accepting your commission, I reserve dedicated time exclusively for you and turn away other opportunities to ensure my full commitment to your project. For this reason, the deposit is non-refundable.
On the booking form, you will upload your reference photo and select a "color palette" for your background. I will use your reference photo and background color selection in the next step, the mock-up.
What makes a good reference photo?
The best reference photos are at eye level with the pet, and in digital, high-resolution format where the pet’s eyes can be clearly seen as well as the details of fur texture and direction of growth. Of course I realize that many people do not have the highest quality photos of their pets, and some pet portraits are memorials where a high resolution photo may be impossible to obtain. That’s ok! I can work from any reference photo. Although a low resolution reference may result in slightly less detail, these portraits also turn out beautifully, looking soft and painterly. Send me your best-loved photo and we'll go from there!
What does select a "color palette" for the background mean?
By this I mean for you to select the main color that you want for your background, for example "blues" or "greens". I will present you with 5 variations of that color in your mock-up so that you can pick your favorite.

Step Two: The Mock-Up
Once I have received your booking form, I will email you within 2-3 days with a basic basic mock-up of your cropped photo with five background variations within the color palette you selected at booking. The purpose of the mock-up is to help you visualize the overall composition of your portrait so that you can easily choose which will best complement your space. You can take as much time as you need to decide which you like best, but please be aware that your placement in my painting queue occurs only after you have approved the mock-up and full payment has been received.

Step Three: Full Payment
When you have approved the mock-up, the remaining balance is due. Invoices can be paid online via credit/debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, or with a Good Eye Fine Art gift card.
Step Four: It's pastel painting time!
After payment is received, you will be added to my painting queue. I use only professional quality soft pastels and archival paper to create your meaningful and unique artwork.
What is your turnaround time?
It varies throughout the year, with my busiest months around the major holidays. I always keep my most up-to-date turnaround times posted at the top of my website next to the Menu bar. This reflects my best estimate from time of full payment to mail out. Please let me know if you need your portrait by a certain date and I will do my best to accommodate whenever possible, however, at minimum and due to the fine hand-detailing of my work, all portraits take at least 4 weeks.
If you are looking for an instant yet very special gift, I also offer online gift cards.

Step Five: Completion and Mailing
Upon completion, I will email you a photo of the finished portrait and let you know it's on the way! Your artwork will be packaged protectively and mailed off promptly.
Postage

-
A flat rate of $50 will be added to the final invoice to cover the costs of shipping and insurance via USPS Priority Mail (estimated arrival in 2-3 business days) within the continental USA. For postage outside the continental USA, I will send you a quote which will be added to the final balance.

I am happy to help clarify anything you may want to know about my artistic process and booking a portrait. Please visit my FAQ for the most requested information. If you don't see what you are looking for, send me an email and I'll get right back to you!
